What is freediving?

Freediving is one of the simplest forms of underwater movement and presence - without a tank, on a single breath.

It can include competitive and recreational sport, but also a freer and more playful exploration of the underwater world - and many other approaches.

Many people first meet it as an extreme sport, but the deeper layer of freediving is much more about relaxation, attention and inner calm.

What is the course about?

The Freediving Courses follow the international Molchanovs education system, at beginner and advanced levels.

During the training, we learn breathing, relaxation, equalization, diving technique, safety foundations and rescue - in the pool and in open water.

The aim is not only to dive deeper or longer, but to build a real sense of safety and comfort in the water.

In the ZenDive approach, progress does not come from forcing. Alongside technical knowledge, calm, clear attention and cooperation with the body matter just as much.

For many people, simply experiencing how calmly and consciously they can be underwater is already something special.

How is it structured?

Depending on the course type, the training includes theory, pool and open-water parts. The exact schedule is agreed before you apply, based on the chosen course, location and conditions.

We build the necessary skills step by step: breathing, relaxation, equalization, surface protocols, diving and safety exercises.

Progress is always gradual. The goal is not to force anything, but to let development build on stable and safe foundations.

In the ZenDive approach, technical knowledge and real comfort in the water both have a central role.

Who can it be good for?

As a beginner, it can be a good choice if you want to learn freediving safely and within a professional system.

As a more experienced freediver, it can be useful if you want to further develop your technique, water confidence and diving comfort.

The ZenDive approach may especially fit you if you do not see freediving only as performance, but want to be present in the water more calmly, consciously and comfortably.

Education system

The courses follow the international Molchanovs freediving education system.

The official requirements and levels are available on the Molchanovs website.

ZenDive courses keep these standard frameworks, with their own calm, presence-centered approach.

Common questions about freediving

Is freediving dangerous?

With proper instruction and clear safety rules, freediving can be learned safely. Safety has a central role in every course.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer to start freediving?

You do not need to be a competitive swimmer, but it is important that you feel confident moving in the water.

I am not sporty. Can I still start?

Yes. Beginner Freediving Courses are not built around exceptional physical performance.

How long do I need to hold my breath before the course?

You do not need to hold your breath for any set amount of time beforehand. We learn the necessary foundations gradually during the course.

Is freediving always about depth, distance and records?

No. Many people practice freediving at least as much for calm, presence and the special experiences available in the water. This is exactly where the strength and distinctiveness of the ZenDive approach lies.

What equipment do I need for a beginner Freediving Course?

Usually a mask, snorkel, fins and, depending on the conditions, a wetsuit. If you do not have your own equipment, we will talk through the options when you apply.
